Santa Marta, is a Colombian city, the capital of the department of Magdalena and third major urban center of the Caribbean Region after Barranquilla and Cartagena. Founded on July 29 of 1525 by the Spanish conquistador Rodrigo de Bastidas, it is the oldest existing city in Colombia as it was the first Spanish settlement in Colombia, and second oldest of South America.
Bahia Concha is a beautiful beach only 20 minutes from the Hostel. It borders Tayrona Park and is a true example of the costal beauty of Santa Marta.
Take a cooler from the hostel with our own beers and lunch and pass the day in the crystal clear waters and white sands. Take in some snorkeling or explore the natural pools.
Parque Tayrona is the number one tourist hot spot in Santa Marta and the second most visited park in all of Colombia. The park covers some 31km of martime park and around 150km of jungle and coast.
Most tourists head to the spectacular Cabo San Juan to see the picturesque beach and spend the night camping or sleeping in hammocks on the beach. There are countless other beaches in the park such as Cristal, Nenguaje and Chengue and you can find more information in this section on them.
Minca is one of the up and coming destinations around Santa Marta. The small community nestled in the Sierra Nevada, the highest costal mountain range in the world, and boasts and array of activities for thrill seekers and nature lovers.
The are gorgeous waterfalls and rivers, a huge diversity of wildlife including Tucans, Howler Monkeys and one of the most important bird sanctuaries in the world.
The Ciudad Perdida, or Lost City, is an ancient indegenous city high up in the Sierra Nevada. It was founded 650 years earlier than Peru’s Machu Picchu in around 800 AD. It had 2000 to 8000 inhabitants at its peak. It was found in 1975 by a group of treasure looters and has been under restoration and protection ever since.
Playa Cistal the most pristine and spectacular in all of Parque Tayrona. It is also one of the most dificult to get to, but for this reason alone it is well worth the effort. It has some of the best snorkelling in the park and you can be assured there will be no one hassling you on the beach while enjoy it’s beautiful and tranquil surroundings.
Quebrada Valencia is a giant waterfall system on the way to Rioacha. Truly a breath taking site and a great day trip out of Santa Marta.

The birth of the tourism sector in the Rodadero happens in 1954 when the military governor Brigadier General Rafael Hernández Pardo begins construction of the road by the Cerro Ziruma. Neguanje is the largest bay in the Tayrona Park, is located in the central part of the coast which corresponds to park. It has the beaches exposed to waves by the breadth of the opening of the sea. The land suitable for the public is characterized by two large sandy beaches separated by a ledge of rocks. It is an ideal place to practice snorkeling (snorkeling) where you can see a variety of fish and corals. Located 45 minutes from Santa Marta via Ground.
Traditionally Gairaca bay is a fishing industry. On his left arm are the beautiful and lonely: Love Beach, Hermosa Beach and Amalfi, which can be visited along a beautiful trail.
